week 4 walk - Wepre Park Wales

Today's walk was in Wepre Park, Connors Quay, North Wales. We had come here to do some geocaching (what else!) and had a lovely walk through the woods and then found a castle to explore at the end of the trail..

The path started off by walking down these steps to reach this lovely little waterfall.

There were picnic tables and benches throughout the woods - usually overlooking the stream that ran through the park - which I am sure would be lovely to stop and picnic at in the summer.


This is the famous red rock - where folk lore tells a rather gruesome tale involving blood etc. - which is said to have coloured the rock.

The stream was dotted with some nice bridges - but we were on the wrong side for one of the caches and could not see a bridge - so waded in and jumped stones to cross it!!

The paths are very well maintained here.



The Castle was quite a good ruin! and you could climb to the top.

week 3 - walk along the Severn Way.

Continuing my quest to set up geocaches along the Severn Way walk. Today I took a walk from The Mount to Frankwell in Shrewsbury. The walk took me about 2 hours - but I did stop often to take notes for the geocache and try and take photos before the snow melted.

The Severn Way is a long distance challenging walk along the 120 mile of the River Severn - from its start high up on the Welsh Mountain Plynlimon finishing all the way down at the Bristol channel.

The snow was at its best yesterday and today it was melting quickly before my eyes.

This tree on the other side of the river, was full of huge birds - I am not sure what they are - but it was a fascinating sight.

This old winch was at the end of my walk in the centre of Shrewsbury. It is the remains of the old winching system that used to power the ferry, that took people across the river before the bridges were built. I am pleased that I have managed to capture St Chad's church steeple in the middle of the winch.

This walk along the river goes right behind this house - which is the house in which Charles Darwin was born. The fields that I was walking in were the fields that the boy Darwin played in and where he first discovered his love of all things natural.

week 2 walk - River Severn Shrewsbury

These photos have been taken a day early - but due to work constraints - I can't fit another walk in and I like these!

These photos of the 8 bridges that span the river Severn in Shrewsbury, were taken for a new geocache that I have set up. It is a multi-cache that involves walking along the footpath next to the river that loops the town of Shrewsbury and visiting the bridges to answer the questions set at each bridge which gives the co-ordinates for the hidden cache at the weir. I was so lucky with the weather - a crisp snowy day with bright blue sky. Other times I have tried to get pics the skies have been dull & grey.

3rd January 2010 - 1st walk

Today Steven & I took our first walk of 2010 and our first visit of the year to Attingham Park. It was a very cold & frosty day - but nice to see some blue sky at long last.
