Week 13 walk - cycle route 81 - Llanilar - Mid Wales

This week's walk was a very long walk - about 10- 12 miles we estimate ( I forgot to re-set my GPS trip odometer!). We walked along cycle route 81 from Llanilar to Grawscoed in Mid Wales. The route follows the long straight line along which a railway track used to run - long gone now - but there were still the remains of a huge platform at Llanilar. The route closely follows a river (not sure which one - sorry) - which when the grey clouds disappeared - became a beautiful blue colour and was very picturesque with the mountains behind.

Week 12 walk - Aberystwyth, mid Wales

Today is the first day of Spring and despite the weather men's prediction for rain - it was a delightful day. My walk this week took me around Aberystwyth admiring the old castle ruins, the harbour and the University buildings.

There are quite a few of these mosaics dotted around the old town walls. 

The harbour was nicely full of boats and their owners were out in force - busy painting and making repairs ready for the first outings of the year.

 We arrived just in time to see the lifeboat come back in.

The castle is a great old ruin.

The university is (or was) a beautiful building - but it is starting to show the ravages of time and the elements, with it being right on the sea front.

Week 11 walk - Lake Tegid - Bala, North Wales

This week's walk took me back to my favourite destination - Wales. I had a day of caching planned around the lake at Bala and was successful in finding 8 caches. The weather as you can see was just gorgeous - the blue sky reflected on the lakes I visited making them look very attractive. Equally stunning were the snow capped mountains. These below are the Arenigs - which I climbed last September.

This is not Bala - can't quite remember the name of it at the moment - but it is very close to it and sits below Arenig Fawr.

The snow capped Arans in the distance - 16th September last year was a memorable day for me on the Arans, when I realised that I could not climb 3,000 footers!

Week 10 walk - Mountains above Llangollen

Our first Ramblers hike of 2010 - a 10 mile stroll around the Mountains behind Llangollen. The weather was beautiful with blue skies all day without a single cloud ad sunshine all day long as well. Spring is well and truly sprung - so it felt quite strange to be walking through some quite thick patches of snow. A delightful day out. Just a few photos from the day.

week 9 walk - The Longmynd, Shropshire

Today I wanted to be in a place of peace & solitude and I found it on The Longmynd. The weather was beautiful, with blue skies & sunshine. I only met a couple of other walkers - so I was able to have the space I needed.
